Why do women need more sleep?

Researchers at Loughborough University’s Sleep Research Centre in England revealed that an average women need 20 more minutes of sleep than men. The study was carried out on 210 middle aged men and women.

The researchers mentioned women brain works harder throughout the day. Women tend to multi-task and use more of their brain. However, they also said men who have complex jobs which involve a lot of decision making and lateral thinking are also likely to need more sleep than the average male.The more we use our brain during the day, the more it needs to rest while asleep.

Researchers also found out the association between poor sleep and high levels of psychological distress and greater feeling of hostility, depression and anger. However, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.
